Where are my just-engaged couples at?

Congratulations you CUTIES! One of the earlier vendors you should book for your wedding or elopement is a photographer. Most will include engagement photos as part of your wedding package. When I do these sessions for my couples, a big question I get is what to wear for engagement pictures. Regardless of if you’re taking photos in Colorado or in your home state, here are some outfit tips I always give my couples.

P.S. Even if you don’t think you’ll use the photos, I always recommend getting them done! It’s a really great way to get comfortable with your photographer and just have some fun celebrating your engagement.

Match Your Vibe

If you scroll through my Instagram or blog, it’s pretty obvious my couples are the baddest, most unique people around. I’m obsessed with all of them. When it comes to what to wear for engagement pictures, your outfits should 100% reflect who you two are as individuals and as a couple. If sequins make you happy, wear them. If Vans and leather make you feel like a bad bitch, wear them. Please try and avoid logos though – we don’t want your engagement pics to look like an ad.

If you’re still feeling lost, go with muted colors like burgundy, navy blue, khaki, white, and black. They look great on camera and usually complement any skin tone. Whatever you decide on, ALWAYS pick what you feel good in. If you’re wearing something brand new and aren’t comfy, it’ll show in your photos.

Maybe Two is Better than One

If you’re having a hard time deciding on a fit, bringing along an extra outfit could be a great option for you. My engagement sessions are long enough to accommodate two outfits, and most other photographers can accommodate them as well. When going over details of your shoot with me or any photographer, let them know you’ll want to do a quick change so we can plan accordingly.

Two outfits means two vibes, and it’s always fun to see what my couples come up with. You can do something a little more casual and then switch it up for something more vibrant or flashy. I have this fun pop-up changing room I can bring that makes it super easy for you to have privacy wherever we are.

Don’t Forget Your Feet

When thinking about what to wear for engagement pictures, don’t forget about your feet! If you’re taking photos in an adventurous spot that requires hiking, make sure you wear something that’s comfy to walk in. You can always wear something better suited for hiking and then change shoes once we get to your location. Check the forecast when planning, too! A cute sandal won’t go well if we’re up in the mountains. Even in the summer, there will still be snow up there.

Pack It Up

For my besties traveling to Colorado or anywhere for their engagement pictures, pack smart! If you’re bringing any kind of dress, I recommend packing a handheld steamer or confirming your hotel/Airbnb has an iron so you can get rid of any wrinkles. Garment bags are also great if you’ll be hiking to your engagement picture location. Just throw your clothes in and we can easily carry everything up for you to change into.

The moral of the story here is to wear what feels authentic to you. If you hire me for your Colorado engagement pictures, I’ll give you a handy guide that has even more tips and a breakdown of what to expect during your session. An engagement session with me is always included in the price of your elopement or wedding package.

Only want me to shoot your engagement photos? That’s cool too. Packages start at $1,200, but fill out my contact form below and we can figure out the perfect package based on what you and bae need.
