Holy shit you guys. This photo shoot was a DREAM.

For this 1970s inspired wedding, I got to work with some of my favorite vendors in Denver to document a truly iconic day. This styled shoot is a perfect example of what I always tell my couples – your wedding can be whatever you want it to be and can look however you want it to look. There are literally no rules!

The Venue

This 1970s inspired wedding took place at The Oasis, a super vibey location in Denver with the most badass history. It was originally built as a secret getaway for a gay couple living in Denver in the 70s. They ran an antique shop out of the front half of the building and built their custom paradise in the back. Once the shop closed at night, the couple hosted “sherry parties” for people passing through Denver. A lot of the interior design is still the original, which really makes you feel like you went back in time.

Right now, The Oasis isn’t a legit event venue. It’s a short-term rental (like an Airbnb) that can be rented for private events on a case-by-case basis.

The Inspo

Jen at Hitched AF was the brains behind this epic shoot. She planned and organized everything to create the vibe we were going for – a 70s Playboy Mansion pool party mixed with a queer wedding. I love that she created an original idea to play off this place’s history as a party pad, and safe haven, for the LGBTQ+ community.

The Wedding Day

While this was a styled shoot and not an actual wedding day, our models are really a married couple! Sam and Rory both identify as queer/nonbinary and they both slayyyyyyed this whole photoshoot.

I was honored to capture everyone’s hard work come together for such an iconic shoot. Everyone brought their own skills and inspiration to the day, which created a really authentic feeling. The photos look way more like a real wedding than the styled shoots I typically see.

  • The venue’s history inspired the initial concept.
  • The color palette came from the floral designs KaraKara Blooms was inspired by.
  • The baker created a kitschy, honeymoon-suite-heart-tub cake, inspired by the retro pool party vibes.
  • The stylist met with Rory and Sam and asked how they wanted to look and feel, then picked their ‘fits based on that.

The Vendor Team

If you’re planning a wedding or elopement right now, these are your PEOPLE. They are all incredible artists, and I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

Please don’t forget – your wedding should reflect you and your partner. Do you want a 1970s inspired wedding like this one? Do it! Want to have pizza delivered instead of a seated meal? Do it! Want to get ready together and skip the “first look”? Do it! Want to jump in the pool in all your clothes because that sounds fun? Do it!

Whatever kind of day you’re planning, I’d love to capture it.
