Since Moab is in Utah, I’ve noticed people think it’s a lot further than that, but the deserts are all within driving distance from Denver if that’s the vibe you want for your elopement. Anthony and Amie’s big first date after meeting was a canyoneering trip through Utah to hit all the major climbing and hiking destinations. When they were ready to make it “official” official, they knew a Moab elopement was the perfect way to exchange vows and recognize the beginning of their story together.
The Details
Moab is a very sacred and special place for Amie and Anthony’s relationship, so they decided to elope in their favorite place.
I found a beautiful spot on the edge of a cliff for them to share vows. It was important to them to have really private time together for their vows, so I stayed far enough back to give them their space.
At sunset, surrounded by the red rock and desert soil, they exchanged the most intentional and beautiful vows. Afterward, we spent the rest of the day taking fun photos and making them look fucking cool!
The photos with the arch are some of my favorites. Amie and Anthony are big climbers, so it felt SO fitting that as we explored, we found a person repelling from the arch as a plane flew over. The way I screamed when I got that photo…
We kept taking pictures all the way into the night to get every type of lighting situation for them.
We all stayed through the weekend to celebrate their Moab elopement! A bunch of their friends made the drive out to go camping and climbing. It was a very “them” weekend, which I loved. One of their friends even picked up a cake on the way out, and Anthony surprised Amie with it around the campfire one night.
Must Knows
Like I said, Moab is super accessible from Denver. It’s only about a five-hour drive, so it’s super convenient if you want to sign your marriage license in Colorado and then jump over to the desert.
I’m very familiar with Moab, so I feel really comfortable taking my couples there and finding great photo spots based on the vibes they want.
I LOVE that these two turned their elopement into a weekend celebration. I wish more people would do it TBH. If you’re traveling somewhere epic for your elopement or wedding, make the most of it by extending your trip to celebrate!
This Moab elopement was in November, which is a really moderate time of year. It’s not too hot during the day and you won’t freeze your ass off until much later at night. I do not recommend summer elopements in Moab because of how hot it can get. If you have your heart set on it, expect to elope either really early in the morning or later at night so you won’t melt.
