You can still have an adventurous Colorado wedding without having to hike.
Aerin and Adam LOVE hiking and the outdoors, but their family? Not so much. When these two decided to bring their friends and family from Chicago out to Silverton for their wedding, they wanted to make the outdoors accessible for them, but without the hiking. The solution? Adam and Aerin rented some badass Jeeps for the ultimate adventurous Colorado wedding!
The Details
Adam and Aerin’s intimate wedding was in Silverton, a small, rustic mountain town in Southwest Colorado. More deets on this location below!
Everyone had their own Jeep, which they rode up to the ceremony spot in. The roads weren’t too treacherous, which was great for their family who was new to driving on Colorado mountain roads.
Their dads led the ceremony, which was really important to them. The location we chose was UNREAL. It looked like everyone was standing in front of a literal greenscreen.
Once Aerin and Adam said “I do,” we did family pictures and then had a tailgate brunch with everyone.
Then, the three of us went off on our own for more pictures. We saw a moose, which was one of the most memorable moments I’ve had as a photographer!
Must Knows
Silverton is TINY. The biggest city nearby is Durango. There’s a train that runs in between the two which is really nice, but you definitely need to do your research if Silverton looks like your vibe. Adam and Aerin’s family flew into the small airport in Durango, but you have to connect through Denver to get there.
Like a lot of places in Colorado, I only recommend a wedding or elopement in Silverton during the summer. The weather during the winter makes it really difficult to travel in, especially with such limited options.
Renting Jeeps to explore Colorado is a really great idea if you want to have an adventurous Colorado wedding. You can bring the mountains to your family and not have to worry about anything. The Jeep rental places out here are really great because they can provide a list of great spots to explore, so there’s minimal planning on your end.
This intimate wedding was my five-hour package. It gave us plenty of time to pick up the Jeeps, conduct their ceremony, take lots of photos, go off-roading, and eat plenty of snacks! Aerin and Adam intentionally chose to do a morning ceremony so they’d have the rest of the day to hang out with their friends and family.
