For gatherings of 50 people or fewer, no permit is required to hold an elopement or intimate wedding on Cannon Beach. However, if your guest list exceeds this number, you’ll need to apply for a special use permit. The application can be found on the Oregon State Parks website. For more detailed information, read this official permit application from Cannon Beach website.
To legally elope in Oregon, couples must obtain an Oregon marriage license. There is a mandatory three-day waiting period after issuance, and the license remains valid for 60 days. It’s advisable to apply approximately two weeks before your wedding date. While you can obtain the license from any county in Oregon, it must be returned to the same county after your ceremony. For those marrying in Cannon Beach, located in Clatsop County, you can schedule an appointment with the County Clerk’s office in Astoria. Alternatively, out-of-state couples can request a mail-in application by contacting the clerk’s office.
Oregon law requires an officiant and two witnesses for a legal marriage ceremony. A friend or family member can become ordained online through the Universal Life Church to officiate your wedding. Luckily, if you hire me as your photographer, I’m legally ordained!
