In case you didn’t know, you actually can have it all when planning your wedding day.
Annie and Garrett celebrated their marriage with a two-day elopement weekend in the heart of Denver. Starting their wedding experience on top of the Populus with a private ceremony, just the two of them. Then, they gradually added more family and friends to each celebration, closing out the weekend with a wedding reception at Apollo Hall.
Annie and Garrett LOVE their people, but didn’t love the idea of the traditional wedding. Instead, they created their own vision for a wedding weekend. Their plan prioritized eachother while still leaving plenty of space for their community to celebrate alongside them.
I know I say this often, but I have THE coolest couples. This wedding will live rent free in my head for the rest of my life.
Rooftop Elopement Ceremony in Downtown Denver

Annie and Garrett spent their morning getting ready in their hotel room before heading up to the rooftop to say “I do”. They shared private vows, completed their marriage license, and spent time together eating cake and sipping champagne to celebrate.
These two have been together FOREVER so eloping in the city they love, just the two of them, made perfect sense. Their ceremony was only the beginning of their celebratory weekend. Afterward, we spent some time exploring their favorite city, Denver, together.
Wedding Portraits in Downtown Denver
One of my favorite parts of planning an elopement is the freedom we have to get creative with wedding portraits.
When eloping somewhere like Denver, there are SO many different possibilities. I always lean into the couple’s love story, personalities and passions when planning their portraits.
For Annie and Garrett, that meant leaning into the true downtown feel of Denver…including its public transportation.
No, I’m serious.
Garrett is genuinely passionate about Denver’s public transit system, so of course we had to capture some portraits of the two of them exploring the city the way they normally do. We wandered through downtown, true elopement style, stopping in the everyday places that hold special meaning to them.
These two are incredibly intentional, and they incorporated so pieces of their personalities and their relationship into every part of their wedding day, including these wedding portraits.
A PSA for Colorado Wedding Photographers
A little PSA to all the wedding photographers checking out this elopement. This couple booked me for their wedding day through a planner so we did not talk at all before the wedding day. Something they told me when we were taking portraits though is that one of the reasons they booked me was that my website was one of the only sites that featured work in Denver that felt beautiful.
Most photographers focus on the mountains, and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the mountains, but I also think Denver is one of the coolest places in the state. As it turns out, plenty of Colorado couples feel the same way.
An Intimate Restaurant Wedding Reception at Stellar Jay
When planning their wedding weekend, Annie and Garrett knew they didn’t want one, huge traditional celebration. After being together for so many years, they wanted a wedding that felt meaningful, not overwhelming.
They knew their friends and family wanted to celebrate with them, but they also wanted intentional time together as newlyweds. That’s how their two-day wedding celebration came to life, starting with their Denver elopement.
Denver is FILLED with incredible restaurants, and one of the best parts of planning an intimate wedding is that restaurants make amazing wedding venues.
One thing many couples don’t talk about enough is how difficult it can be to spend quality one-on-one time with the people you love the most on a traditional wedding day. Including your partner!
By splitting up your wedding with a few smaller celebrations like Annie and Garrett did, you create so many more opportunites for meaningful conversations and intentional moments with the people who matter most.
