You’re Engaged… Now What?

Your best friend surprised you with the best proposal ever. You’ve taken time to celebrate and break the news to everyone. Now that the initial shock is wearing off, you’re looking at your bling like, “Shit, what now?” That’s where I come in.

Here are 3 steps to take after getting engaged. Planning your elopement can be overwhelming, but the key is to create a to-do list where you can check planning items off. Taking on the entire concept of getting married at once will make you go bonkerz – we don’t want that.

3 Steps to Take After Getting Engaged

1. Get your bling ensured.

Yep – this is a thing. You can add this as an extension to your home or renters insurance. It’s super inexpensive and could possible save you soooooo much money if you ever needed it. I know, it’s not the most fun thing but TOTALLY necessary.

2. Choose a Date.

There are a lot of ways to choose a date, but here are some things to consider when choosing a date.

  • Do you have a special date you and bae celebrate?
  • Weekday Elopements & Intimate weddings are much more affordable. A lot of vendors have deals and discounts for couples who choose to do a weekday. The mountains and other popular spots are also less crowded on weekdays
  • Avoid popular dates like Labor Day or cool number dates like “10/10/20” – these are dates that you will have a lot of competition with other couples and people having previous plans. Save your sanity.
  • Consider seasons you’d like to get married in. Fall is incredibly popular due to amazing weather and the colors changing.
  • Do you have a vendor you HAVE to have? Check with their schedule and choose a date their available. Not only will this ensure that you get that amazing vendor, but it’s the BIGGEST compliment a couple can give their favorite vendor.

3. Lockdown a kickass photographer.

When taking the next steps to plan your elopement or intimate wedding, your photographer can help you a TON. If you get a good one, they’ll be able to help you continue the planning process. I provide my couples with Maps and location suggestions dependent on exactly what they want.

If you’re stumped on where to elope, be open and honest with your photographer. They will be able to help you through this. 90% of my couples aren’t sure where they want to elope. You don’t have to have all the answers.

BONUS TIP: Soak in being engaged.

This is such an exciting time that seems to go super fast when starting to plan your marriage. Schedule date nights once a month to reflect and be together. This season of life is so special.
